It's summer and the sun is shining bright! Really hot right now, dreading going back to summer school. It's been difficult to work out due to it being so hot. Only worked out once in the past four days. Hope my school gym has AC though! How's summer for everyone?

Take care

Hey guys!

I apologize for not being as active on my blog as I should be, but university ain't easy! Huge transition from high school to university; more homework, longer days and A LOT more students in the classroom. How do I have time to keep in shape?
I usually have an hour or two breaks in between my classes. I use my break to go to the gym and work out a bit. It may not be a lot, but it's better than just sitting down and doing nothing on my break. Even though you may be busy, please try to at least get a bit of exercise!

Best of luck to all of you!Andrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13442294649702756692noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2683372380385855734.post-23258280932408544532012-08-11T15:41:00.001-07:002012-08-11T15:45:01.749-07:00School is Starting Soon! Educate Yourself!

School is starting soon! School is just right around the corner. Stay fit while you still can. Why not educate yourself before school even starts? Educate yourself about a healthy and fit lifestyle. I guarantee you will learn a lot! Just because school is starting doesn't mean you have to stop working out. Study hard, but not too hard! Plan your daily schedule with breaks for work out time. Do some daily stretches to loosen up your neck. If your school offers a physical education program, please take it! It will definitely be worth the time. Join some sports teams or clubs and you will be fit as well. So why stop when summer ends? Keep going!
Get SCHOOL'D!
I found this new FREE app in the health and fitness section of the app store - 'My Calorie Counter iPhone App.' It's a great app which helps you track your calories for what you eat. It's really simple and easy to use! All you have to do is input what you ate and the calories of the item you ate. Eventually, the calories will add up, and you will realize how much you ate within the time lapse. There are many other apps like this throughout the app store which are FREE as well! Here's a rather popular one, that you may have seen in the FREE section of the app. store: Calorie Counter. The image of the app will be below this small wall of text.

One thing we know is that exercising at lower intensities will use more fat for energy. This basic premise is what started the theory of the 'fat burning zone,' or the idea that working in a certain heart rate zone (around 55 to 65 of your maximum heart rate) will allow your body to burn more fat.

Over the years, this theory has become so ingrained in our exercise experience that we see it touted in books, charts, websites, magazines and even on cardio machines at the gym. The trouble is that it's misleading. Working at lower intensities isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it won't burn more fat off your body unless you're burning more calories than you're eating. One way to increase your calorie burn is to exercise at higher intensities.

Does this mean that, if you want to burn more fat, you should avoid low intensity exercise? Not necessarily. There are some specific things you can do to burn more fat and it all starts with how and how much you exercise.Andrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13442294649702756692noreply@blogger.com30tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2683372380385855734.post-20723029945018144932011-05-13T14:48:00.000-07:002011-05-13T14:49:15.065-07:00Weight Loss - Fact V
The idea that "not eating enough" causes the body to stop losing weight because it goes into "starvation mode" is a popular myth among dieters.

Restricting calories during weight loss lowers metabolism because the body becomes more efficient, requiring fewer calories to perform the necessary daily functions for survival. Consequently, this can slow (but not stop) the anticipated rate of weight loss.

It is unclear as to whether the relationship between reduced caloric intake and a lower metabolism follows a straight path or becomes more pronounced the greater the caloric reduction. Some studies have found no significant reduction in metabolism until the caloric restriction is quite large (e.g. 800 calories or less per day).Others suggest a linear relationship with small reductions in metabolism accompanying small reductions in caloric restriction, with the gap increasing as the caloric deficit is enlarged.

While there is no biologic evidence to support the "starvation mode" myth, there may be behavioral reasons why weight loss stops when calories are severely reduced. Over-restriction of calorie intake, known as high dietary restraint is linked to periods of overeating, hindering successful weight loss.
Andrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13442294649702756692noreply@blogger.com21tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2683372380385855734.post-37597275274636846512011-05-05T22:56:00.000-07:002011-05-05T22:56:53.530-07:00Weight Loss - Before and After Fakes?
Anyone seen those before and after photos from a weight loss program?

Getting fit doesn’t have to be difficult. There are a lot of complicated exercise programs and fad diets out there that only confuse you and actually make getting fit harder than it has to be. The following are some quick steps to starting and maintaining a simple fitness and health program.
1. Exercise
A Simple exercise program must follow some basic principles. It must provide a combination of cardiovascular, muscle endurance and flexibility exercises. No need to use free weights or complicated machine, unless you enjoy those types of exercises.
2. Diet
A simple diet should include foods consisting of lean protein and complex carbohydrates. Try to eat smaller meals more often. Instead of 3 large meals, try 6 smaller meals. You can eat at your regular times for breakfast, lunch and dinner just eat smaller portions of the right foods. You would then add a morning snack, afternoon snack and an evening snack. Don’t make the evening snack too heavy. By eating smaller meals more often you will feel hungry less often resist the urge to snack on bad foods.
By eating the right foods your meals will also be more filling and provide more energy. Avoid high fat foods and foods high in processed sugar. One rule to follow is don’t eat the 3 whites: white sugar, white flour and white salt. You should also try and drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
3. Sleep
Most people are not getting enough sleep. You should try to get between 7 and 8 hours of sleep a night. Lack of sleep is also a contributor to increased weight.
Benefits
Beyond appearance, simple exercise and simple eating can assist in cancer prevention, eliminate certain forms of heart disease and reduce stress. By following these simple steps, a person can lose weight, maintain a healthy weight, and enjoy a healthier lifestyle.
Get Fit. Stay Fit. Have Fun.Andrewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13442294649702756692noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2683372380385855734.post-6044165864392341822011-04-22T00:12:00.000-07:002011-04-22T00:12:28.817-07:00Weight Loss - Fact IIIDon't expect to remain healthy if you do not have a balanced diet. You cannot eat whatever you like and stay in good health. Look around you next time you go to the supermarket and try to guess how many people have a truly balanced diet. You are unlikely to see anyone who is suffering from malnutrition or starvation but you may see some who eat more than they need to. You are much more likely to see people who eat too much of the wrong kinds of food.
